The formula

German grade = 1 + 3 × (Nmax − Nd) / (Nmax − Nmin). The best grade there becomes 1.0, the lowest pass becomes 4.0, and everything in between is linear. Most universities cut the result after the first decimal, without rounding.

If your transcript shows a range, such as “B = 80–89”, universities usually take the top value. For applications through uni-assist, uni-assist does its own conversion; this calculator is then for orientation.
